When your system feels on guard or overwhelmed, it automatically shifts into ways of thinking, feeling, and acting that are meant to protect you. You might notice yourself always “on” and unable to relax, overthinking everything, procrastinating on what matters most, reaching for food, wine, or your phone to take the edge off, snapping at people you care about, or feeling so drained that even small tasks feel impossible. These aren’t personal flaws, they are normal nervous system responses.
